The Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, received this Saturday the executive director of the oil company russian RosneftIgor Sechin, whom he thanked for Moscow’s efforts to help the Caribbean country.
Díaz-Canel expressed his gratitude “to all the parties that have made their efforts, first understanding the situation in Cuba, and now doing everything we can do to move forward,” the Cuban Presidency reported on Twitter.

At the Palace of the Revolution, Sechin said that Russian President Vladimir Putin “directly and personally supervises” everything related to bilateral relations.
“First of all, I would like to convey the best wishes of our president (Putin) to you,” said the businessman, who would travel to Caracas from Havana to attend the events for the tenth anniversary of the death of former Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez.
Before the meeting with Díaz-Canel, Sechin met with Ricardo Cabrisas to address issues of mutual collaboration, especially with regard to the energy sector, aim the television station RT.
With Sechin there have been two public visits by a senior Russian official to Cuba in the last three days. On Wednesday Díaz-Canel and former president Raúl Castro received the secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev.
In November 2022, the Cuban president met Putin during a visit to Moscow, with whom he discussed the status and development prospects of the bilateral strategic partnership in various spheres.

In this context, he also held talks with Sechin and thanked him for “the gestures he has had towards Cuba and that have marked solutions in difficult times,” according to official sources.
That visit to Russia was part of a tour of other countries such as China and Algeria to find ways to face the serious crisis that the Caribbean country is going through, especially in the economic, energy and food areas.
