Santo Domingo.- The former Dominican president and leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, Leonel Fernandezagain gave a preview of where his speech on Tuesday will lead, establishing, on this occasion, that the Government has lacked knowledge or sensitivity, assuring that there is “Abinader chicken” and it is also expensive.
He said that “it is not by deceiving the people on the basis of their needs that they intend to gain support, it is by seeking solutions to inflation, the lack of food products.”
He also specified that all this debate about prices began with chicken, when the People’s Force warned “that we had reached (with chicken) something unacceptable.”
On that occasion, the president of the FP warned that it was unacceptable that in a chicken-producing country, a pound of poultry meat cost 100 pesos.

“When I said that it had reached 100 pesos a pound (referring to chicken), the government corrected me. They told me, it is not true that it is 100 pesos, it is only 99. They were making fun of the Dominican people, ”he stressed.
Leonel Fernández explained that people have gone to supermarkets to look for Index chicken, which President Abinader mentioned in his accountability speech, but that he has been surprised to find neither Index chicken nor Indian chicken, finding only the “Abinader chicken, which is also expensive.”
The former Dominican president insisted on the mistake made by the Abinader government when importing chickens from Brazil.
“With the price of chicken, what he tried was to import chicken, not from India, but from Brazil, without paying customs duties, ruining chicken producers with that measure. It broke them and the price of chicken did not drop significantly, ”he said.
In this sense, he pointed out that the Government “lacked imagination, lacked creativity, lacked knowledge or lacked sensitivity.”
He recalled that FP had recommended on multiple occasions that instead of importing finished products, such as chicken, “we would have imported corn, we would have imported soybeans, the inputs to produce chickens in the Dominican Republic, without paying customs taxes, but never import chicken”.
Fernández spoke before hundreds of people who accompanied the former senator from the province of San Cristóbal, Anibal Garcia Duvergein the act in which his party Unidad de Movimientos Independientes, offered its support to the candidates that FP will present in the electoral tournaments of the year 2024.
In that activity, Fernández pointed out that the support received marks a turning point in the upcoming electoral process, because it is the first political force that adheres to the organization he presides over to create a great opposition front.
