Álvaro Delgado says that he is not from the right, and that the FA is “selfish and radicalized”

In an interview published this Sunday, the Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, Álvaro Delgado, spoke about his role as Secretary of the Presidency and the new imprint he has given to his role. According to him, this is due to the personal and political trust he has with the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, with whom he began a journey together in 2008. In addition, the president himself proposed that he coordinate actions of the different ministries, which It has allowed him to articulate and monitor various government projects.

In the conversation with the newspaper The countryDelgado also referred to the dialogue and the closeness that the government has with different actors, both the government coalition and the opposition, unions and employers. He assured that the president and himself maintain constant communication with the leaders and legislators of all political parties.

On the closeness he has shown with some Frente Amplista leaders, such as Alejandro SánchezDelgado assured that it is a natural question and that he does not care what is said in the internal. In addition, he highlighted that at the same event in which he greeted Sánchez, he made statements very harsh public statements against the Broad Front.

When asked about the late former president tabare vazquezwho said that his was a local government, Delgado replied: “It is one thing to say it and another to do it.”

Bad relations with the Broad Front

The Secretary of the Presidency also spoke about the current moment of the relationship with the Broad Front, admitting that it is not at its best. According to Delgado, “this FA is much more radicalized and selfish, for which everything is worth anything to return to power.” He criticized the party’s operating pattern and its lack of respect for government proposals, such as the tax cut that will benefit more than 60,000 Uruguayans.

Regarding his possible candidacy, Delgado avoided speaking directly on the subject, but he did refer to other possible candidates such as Laura Raffo, Beatriz Argimón, Jorge Gandini and Martín Lema. He assured that they are all excellent options and that the final decision will depend on the National Party.

Regarding Raffo, he stated: “It was a good bet for Montevideo. Obviously, I don’t know what his course is going to be, if he is going to have national aspirations. It seems to me that if he wants to do it, he has every right and has all the potential. Beatriz Argimón also has it, who also has a whole additional career, perhaps one of the longest in the party and also linked to very sensitive issues. So does Jorge Gandini. In other words, several of the people who are being named as possible pre-candidates.
