Camagüey Brewery appeals to “alternative productions” due to lack of raw materials

The Tinima Brewery of Camagueyone of the most important in Cuba, appealed last year to “alternative productions” and other solutions to generate income due to the lack of raw materials.

The Camagüeyan company manufactured products such as cider, wines, juices, vinegar, soft drinks, caramel syrup and water, while making a change in the formulation of the beer in all its formats, with a view to not stopping its productions, as reported the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

In addition, it expanded its activities with the provision of services to third parties in the transportation and cleaning of bottles, with which it “achieved income and contributions to the budget” of the State during 2022, the information adds.

Dariel Lamadrid Martín, outgoing director of La Tínima, commented to ACN that “last year was marked by a reduction in the main raw materials for the manufacture of beers.” This, he said, “determined a change in the work strategy to be able to comply and not have interrupted workers.”

These measures “allowed the recovery and growth of total activity levels and the payment of profits in the third quarter of last year,” explained Lamadrid Martín.

In addition to the “alternative productions” already mentioned, the company also opted for the use of more national inputs to manufacture the beer and for the aforementioned change in the formulation “in order to take advantage of imported inputs such as barley,” the report specifies. that does not offer figures of what was produced or what was collected by the entity last year.

For his part, Darío González Castañeda, union leader of La Tínima, recognized that “there is still much to do and to talk with the workers to avoid crimes and promote self-consumption”, necessary for the food of those who work in the company.

Founded in 1985 and recognized for many years for the quality of its productions, the Tínima Brewery plans for 2023 to “increase sales in foreign currency, raise the quality of worker qualifications and ensure the delivery of products to the population.”

Similarly, the entity “aspires to finalize the negotiation with a joint venture through the partners Corporación Cubaron and DAMM.” For this, “conditions are created with the purpose of increasing water levels by preparing wells,” concludes the ACN.

Beer is one of the most demanded products by Cuban consumers, particularly national brands. However, given the problems of internal production, the Cuban market is currently dominated by foreign beverages, imported by the government and by the private sector.
