Sports journalism is in mourning. A reference for football fans, commentator Márcio Guedes passed away on Friday night (3), to the sadness of a legion of fans. There are countless farewell messages on social media to the reporter from Rio de Janeiro, a declared Botafogo fan, who began his professional career at the age of 21 at Rádio Jornal do Brasil, went through the print media (Correio da Manhã and Jornal da Tarde), but was on TV which won over an even larger audience.

TV Bandeirantes was the entry point for the commentator in 1977, where he covered the World Cup in Argentina a year later. From 1982 Márcio Guedes was hired by TV Globo and covered the World Cup in Spain.
Brazil says goodbye to two great names that marked the history of journalism.

Already on TV Manchete, where he joined in 1986, Márcio Guedes formed with journalists Alberto Léo and Paulo Stein the trio that presented the program Manchete esportiva – 1º tempo, audience success at the time.

Márcio Guedes is gone.

then went to @tvglobo where he commented on the 82 Cup alongside Luciano do Valle.
He lived great days on TV Manchete with Paulo Stein.

In 2001, the journalist became a commentator for the programs EsporTVisão, No Mundo da Bola, Stadium, and Reporter Brasil, all on TV Brasil.
I had the honor of participating as a guest in many programs on TV Brasil in which I was able to share the bench of commentators with Márcio Guedes. Great figure! Great professional. Another one that leaves us because of the damn cancer. Botafogo native Márcio Guedes will be missed.

Anyone in their 30s also followed Márcio Guedes’ work on ESPN, from 2005 to 2014, on the Linha de Passe program, alongside other sports journalism beasts such as José Trajano, Juca Kfouri, Paulo Vinícius Coelho (PVC), Tostao and Fernando Calazans.
Márcio Guedes left us. We were schoolmates. In recent years, due to political differences, we never spoke again.

Before starting his career on TV, Márcio Guedes stood out for reports and columns in Jornal do Brasil, O Dia and O Globo. He was awarded the Esso Prize twice:. in 1971, in Correio da Manhã for the series “Futebol em Três Tempos”, about the rise, glory and decay of soccer stars; and in 1976, in Jornal da Tarde/ Estado de São Paulo for the article “This is how the ace was made: Zico”.
The journalist’s burial will be this Saturday (4) reserved for friends and family.
