What the PLD and PRD say about the pact for Haiti

While the general secretary of the PLD, Charles Mariotti, when asked if it is possible for that organization to evaluate the possibility of attending the next meeting, only pointed out that: “Let’s leave the future to the present.”

For its part, the PRD reported in the afternoon its decision not to participate in the meeting because a document was signed in January of last year and a commission was structured to follow up on the Haitian issue, but that the commission the party is part was not “never convened and it is their role to follow up on the Haitian issue.”

“We have shown interest in the issue, as stated in a document signed in January 2022 together with other political organizations, and we were part of the monitoring commission that it drafted for the joint signature of the government and the parties,” is part of the PRD communiqué that indicates it would not participate in the dialogue of the pact.

Until now, the party has not reported whether it will be present at the next meeting that will take place on March 8.

The meeting lasted around three hours and among the points on which an agreement was reached included the formation of four commissions and at the next meeting the representatives of each party that will make them up will be elected.

The topics that will be discussed have to do with the policy abroad, border control, the policy migration and the effects of the Haitian crisis on the economy of the Dominican Republic, as the main supplier of products to that nation.
