American conservatives reserved their best darts for the progressive left on Thursday during their big annual gathering near Washington, with the 2024 presidential election in their sights.

“These leftists, these Marxists who have imposed their power on the American people (…) must be warned,” said Republican representative of Pennsylvania Scott Perry before thousands of militants gathered at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

“They must tremble with fearthey should be worried, they should lose weight (…) because they are afraid of ending up in jail,” he launched.

Influential Republican lawmaker Jim Jordan lamented “cancel culture” and warned militant conservatives to the left will “go after you” if you disagree with her.

Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville expressed his outrage at the supposed priority that transgender athletes would have and “woke” concerns – a term used by conservatives to denounce what they consider pandering to the left with the claims of minorities – about the traditional school problems.

The topic that guides this congress political is the “culture wars”the main axis of attack of the Republicans to win the White House in 2024.

More than 600 days after the election, the CPAC – which runs until Saturday – will serve as the setting for the first duel between two prominent candidates for the Republican inauguration: Nikki Haley and Donald Trump.

The former US ambassador to the UN will speak on Friday afternoon. While the influential former president will close the event on Saturday.

But unlike what happened in previous editions, Trump’s speech will be given amid conspicuous absencessuch as those of Florida governor and rising star of the radical right, Ron DeSantis, and former Vice President Mike Pence, possible rivals to Trump for the Republican internships.

“The only reason some ‘candidates’ won’t go to CPAC is because the crowd isn’t interested in anything they have to say,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Thursday.

The former president, however, predicted a “bestial” event and assured that the conservatives will live “a great moment.”
