The four commissions proposed by the President in the meeting with the national political leadership

In the meeting where the national political leadership met this Thursday, four commissions were approved, all focused on promoting actions that protect national sovereignty through an adequate immigration policy and a correct management of the Haitian crisis.

At the end of the meeting, the political leader Eddy Olivares, who spoke on behalf of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM)expressed that this meeting reflected the solidity and maturity of the political leadership of the Dominican Republic before the call of President Luis Abinader to discuss the migration issue and the crisis that the neighboring country Haiti is going through.

In the activity, held in the green room of the National Palace, the head of state proposed the formation of four commissions: one on foreign policy; immigration policy; border control; and managing the economic impact of the Haitian crisis.

“In this sense, the participants in this meeting participated, made suggestions and everything was developed within an atmosphere of absolute cordiality and collaboration. There was a commitment from the parties of different ideologies, for the nation, for the Republic and to walk together, united towards the solution of the problem”, said Olivares.

The composition of the commissions will be defined at the next meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday of next week. The meeting was attended by representatives of 28 political parties out of 30 that were summoned.

The only parties that did not have representatives at the meeting were the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).

The political leader of the People’s Force Party, Manolo Pichardo, said that at the next meeting the government will deliver proposals for each of the commissions. “The political parties will have the opportunity to make, based on these documents, proposals,” he explained.

On the pronouncement of the PLD, not to participate in the national dialogue to deal with the crisis in Haiti, Marino Vinicio Castillo (Vincho) described the decision of the purple party as unfair because “the national circumstances have worsened enormously.”

Vincho, president of the conservative National Progressive Force (FNP) party, maintained that the issue of Haiti at this time is not about immigration issues but about invasion.
