The peasant leader Carlos José Bolívar Cedeño, was assassinated in Puerto Carrizalero, Esteros de Camaguán municipality, Guárico, according to police sources.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the event occurred at 6 am this Thursday, just as Bolívar Cedeño was preparing to embark on a trip down the Portuguesa River in his boat. At that moment, two subjects arrived on a motorcycle and one of them fired a rifle against the humanity of Bolívar Cedeño, who died on the spot.
Once the murder was committed, the subjects escaped on the motorcycle. Immediately, the workers present (fishermen, caleteros, canoeists) crowded around the body of Bolívar Cedeño.
During the course of the morning, Cicpc officials appeared who proceeded to remove the body and transferred it to the forensic medicine of Calabozo (Guárico).
Trajectory
The murdered man was a member of the Peasant Struggle Platform, whose directors issued a statement demanding an investigation into the murder. In the text, the peasant group denounced that Bolívar Cedeño “was assassinated by hitmen while he began his work in Puerto Carrizalero.”
The document states that Bolívar Cedeño was the historic leader of the struggle to rescue Hato Los Tramojos, an emblematic case of the Admirable Peasant March, which left Guanare (Portuguese) on July 12, 2018 and arrived in Caracas on August 3 of that same year, being received by President Nicolás Maduro.
The murdered leader was also a spokesman for the Ezequiel Zamora commune in the El Jabillal 1 sector in Arismendi, Barinas state.
“We call on the popular, peasant, and community movement to mobilize to demand truth and justice for the hundreds of victims of hired assassins in the countryside,” the statement concluded.
