Fenatep separates from the Magisterial Block

Last Saturday, Fenatep, a teachers’ union with ties to Movadef and created by former president Pedro Castillo, held a virtual meeting in which a resounding “demarcation” was approved with the congressmen of the teachers’ bench.

“Repudiate the treasonous attitude of the magisterial bench that has crawled, like snakes, to preserve their personal golleries, before the murderers of the people and have recognized ”, says the sixth point of their agreement to which this newspaper had access.

Professor Daniel Cerrón, secretary of Fenatep Lima, told this outlet that his union no longer feels “represented” by congressmen and that it will be very difficult for them to return to their union when they leave their seats because today “they have a license.” .

As recalled, on December 7, the day of Pedro Castillo’s vacancy, of the ten members of that bench, three voted in favor, two did not, four abstained and only one voted against. Professors Elizabeth Medina, Edgar Tello and Álex Paredes supported the vacancy, despite always saying that they would never support this measure.

What caught the most attention was Tello’s vote, since he was very close to Pedro Castillo. In 2018, Tello accompanied Castillo to a meeting of teachers organized by Movadef in Bolivia.

Minutes of the Assembly. Fenatep dissociated itself from the Magisterial Bloc.

THE BENCH IS REDUCED

Last Tuesday, the resignation of congressmen Katy Ugarte and Segundo Quiroz from their bench, Bloque Magisterial de Concertación Nacional, was announced. This fact caused a political surprise because it was thought that it was one of the most cohesive groups for being teachers affiliated with a union: the National Federation of Education Workers of Peru (Fenatep).

However, when it was thought that the bench was reduced from ten to eight members, the spokesman for that group, Paul Gutiérrez, told this outlet that Segundo Quiroz had submitted a letter reconsidering his decision and asking for his reinstatement. And indeed, that happened. Quiroz backed down.

The resignation letter presented by Quiroz was dated February 22 and literally states that he did so “irrevocably” and “by conscience and principles.”

In the case of the resignation of congresswoman Katy Ugarte, she explains that she left her group also for reasons of “conscience and principles.”

“For us it was a surprise. You know that we have returned from the week of representation and that document was sent to us yesterday morning (Tuesday), “said the spokesperson.

Gutiérrez pointed out that when Ugarte personally handed him his resignation letter, there was no dialogue between them.

“There was no problem with the bench for her to resign,” he said.

The bench will have a meeting today to analyze the surprising resignation of Ugarte.
