Teachers in at least two states of the country came out this Thursday to protest to demand the salary adjustment that they have been fighting for months. In Mérida, they consigned a document to the Prosecutor’s Office that sought this purpose, while in Miranda they demonstrated on the Pan-American Highway
Teachers in the states of Miranda and Mérida resumed their street agenda this Thursday, March 2, after the 48-hour strike called by university workers and later joined by other unions such as the Federation of Associations of University Professors of Venezuela (fapuv).
In the Mirandina entity, the teachers took out their banners; flags of Venezuela and creativity to utter slogans to protest the low wages they receive and the difficult working conditions they live in their workplaces. They took advantage and stationed themselves on the Pan-American Highway, at the height of the La Cascada Shopping Center.
Their presence partially hindered traffic because they occupied a section of the road. Not only teachers were in the protest, but they were accompanied by retirees and public sector employees.

There was also a protest at the gates of the Simón Bolívar University (USB). There, the teachers demanded a salary adjustment and due social protection “adjusted to the law, the Constitution and human rights.”

Along with that, they urged the authorities to return all the money that is dammed in savings banks and other mechanisms.

Meanwhile, in the state of Mérida, teachers gathered in the Plaza de Milla in the capital to then walk to the Public Ministry where they recorded documents and signatures demanding that the authorities improve working and salary conditions in all educational levels.

In most of the states in Venezuela, the protests over wage demands keep the streets hot, while the ruling party blames the economic war, the sanctions and the US blockade for not being able to increase the wages of the workers.
Both the protests and the 48-hour strike have as their main purpose the increase in wages and pensions, as well as the improvement of working conditions and the signing of the collective contract. The union proposed to the State organizations that the salary of a university professor should be at least $600, despite the salary they receive is around five dollars, if the conversion is made with the indicators of the BCV.
