The early hours of this Thursday witnessed a tragedy that left two men dead in the heart of the commune of Central Station, in Santiago. According to witnesses, the men were crossing the street at the green light when a speeding driver could not avoid hitting them. Instead of stopping, The driver fled the sceneleaving behind a heartbreaking scene.
The victims, as reported by Biobío, two adult men over 50 years of age, lost their lives at the scene of the accident.
Police have launched an investigation to find the whereabouts of the driver.
Captain Mauricio Barra, in charge of the case, has indicated that parts of the vehicle have been found at the scene of the accident and that they are working on the identification of the vehicle.
The sister of the victims, Paola, has made statements to the local press in which she assures that the driver ran the red light and even collided with the central tray. According to her, the men were heading to take a taxi after going through a food service.
Traffic in Alameda with Las Rejas is interrupted to allow police investigations, which generates congestion in the morning rush hour. The community is shocked and hopes that justice will be done for the victims and their families.
