Fulvia Benavides was sworn in as Colombian consul in Caracas

The Colombian ambassador in Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, announced that the staff of his country’s consulate in the nation is incomplete. After announcing the appointment of Fulvia Benavides as the new consul, he stressed that the arrival of another 14 people is expected to complete the team


The Colombian ambassador in Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, reported that on Wednesday afternoon, March 1, Fulvia Benavides was sworn in as that country’s consul in the nation.

Benedetti made the announcement through his account on the social network Twitter. He indicated that the staff of the Caracas consulate is not yet complete. He explained that 14 people are missing to complete the team at the diplomatic headquarters located in the Chacaito sector, Libertador municipality of the Capital District.

The diplomat has previously insisted on the need to provide consular attention to Colombians in Venezuela. Among the urgent procedures that the community carry out is the issuance of passports, diligence of university degrees, IDs and accompaniment to citizens.

It is expected that, as announced by the Foreign Ministry days agoconsular service in Venezuela resumes within a period of no more than four months, taking into account the reopening of four consulates in a first phase: Caracas, Maracaibo, San Antonio de Táchira and San Cristóbal.

According to El Tiempo, at the consult headquarters, closed since 2019, when both countries broke their relations, Hans de Francesco, who will take over as first secretary, and Natalia Herrera, who will have the position of third secretary, will also be present, being the first mission that Herrera assumes.

16 officials work in that consulate, but for now these three have been appointed, recalled a source who spoke with this newspaper, indicating that this is because in the government of President Iván Duque “he thought that relations would not be restored” and ” the charges were assigned to other countries.”

It still remains to be known when the official activities of the consulate will begin.
