The Government confirmed this Wednesday what will be the increases that will be applied to the electricity rates for users of the AMBA (Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area), and to whom a gradual removal of subsidies has been made.
As reported by the ENRE (National Electricity Regulatory Entity), the electricity rates they will have an increase of 60% until June, in two tranches. This increase will be reflected in ballots of April and June.
In this way, the electricity rates from EDENOR and EDESUR will increase approximately $360, according to user segmentation. The increase will affect 70% of residential users, that is, some 3.8 million homes in categories R1 and R2.
The measure was made official through Resolutions No. 240 and 241/2023 published this Wednesday by the ENRE. There it is explained: “In the case of general rate users, the average increase for April 2023 with respect to the current charts will be an average of 34%.”
They also detailed that “to define this update of rates, the protection of the family economy of users of medium and low resources was taken as a central criterion.”
And they highlighted: “The increases requested by the companies that fluctuated by 300% were not granted, but rather a recomposition of fair and reasonable rates, less than the retail inflation projected for this year and that forces companies to make the necessary investments to guarantee a quality service”
Within this framework, the ENRE “ordered the distributors EDENOR SA and EDESUR SA to present the investment plan for the year 2023, with the necessary works for the expansion and improvement of the electrical network, in order to guarantee the normal provision of the service electricity for all users.
How much will the bills be?
Starting in April ballots of light will be more expensive, according to the segmentation of users. This way, low-income households will pay on the average final bill, with the increase, between $1,500 and $1,600.
For their part, medium-income users will pay between $1,700 and $1,800, while high-income users will pay between $3,100 and $3,300 for the bill.
