Biden Administration “suspends” visit of Cuban border guards to the US

MIAMI, United States. — The United States government would have suspended the visit of officials of the Cuban Border Guard Troops to facilities of the Coast Guard (USCG, for its acronym in English), according to what Cuban-American Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar announced this Wednesday.

“We are very happy because the administration of President Biden has just suspended that visit,” said the Republican representative in a video posted on social networks.

The cancellation of the visit occurs after politicians such as María Elvira, Senator Marco Rubio and sectors of exile will denounce the visit of the representatives of the Border Guard Troops, a body subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior of Cuba (MININT).

“The pressure works. The Biden Administration suspended the tour of the Cuban Border Guards through military installations in the US. That should never have even been thought of!” María Elvira wrote on her Twitter account.

For the legislator, it would have been unacceptable for the US Coast Guard to open the doors of its facilities to the Cuban Border Guard Troops.

“The American Coast Guard was going to open the doors for Cubans to see their operations, their facilities, and to see that fantastic display of technology that the United States has,” said the representative for the 27th district of Florida.

According to Salazar, the visit was suspended “thanks to a letter” signed by various politicians warning of the dangers of inviting the Cuban military.

Senator Marco Rubio had also condemned the promoted visit to the US by the representatives of the Cuban Border Guard Troops.

“Now they are going to invite them to come to the United States, to spy here, to do harm here, to do propaganda here, and to return to Cuba to do more propaganda themselves,” Rubio said in a brief message posted on social media.
