Pact proposal on Haiti does not motivate opposing parties

The opposition parties view with suspicion the call made by President Luis Abinader to achieve a national pact from which emerges a unanimous response in the defense of national sovereignty in the face of the challenges of haitian crisis.

Political leaders mistrust the president’s proposal and notice a contradiction between his words and his deeds regarding the immigration issue.

The Secretary General of the Dominican Liberation Party, charlie mariottireminded Abinader of the experience they had with the dialogue convened by the Government in the Economic and Social Council (CES), which he described as a waste of time.

“We already lived through the CES fiasco and lie: zero hits, zero runs, after months and months of conversations. They made us waste all the time in the world and today not a single result is exhibited”, said Mariotti.

It is the responsibility of the head of state

For the former senator, “the responsibility for foreign and migration policy belongs to the Executive Power and it is up to the president to show solutions and demonstrate that he has the capabilities to exercise and apply constitutional mandates.”

Also, Temistocles Montasmember of the Political Committee of the PLD, affirmed that all the measures of the Dominican Government related to Haiti and its crisis are a responsibility that falls on the President of the Republic.

Both Mariotti and Montás insisted that the person in charge of handling the issue belongs to the head of the Executive Branch in whose hands this important issue is.

Jose Dantessecretary of Legal Affairs of the PLD, pointed out that “it is very difficult to have confidence in an actor who, surreptitiously, almost secretly, in the month of December, sends several highly controversial bills, one of which, precisely , touches in a very sensitive way the issue of illegal migration”.

They point out a contradiction between discourse and laws

Dantés was referring to the bills on Trafficking in Persons and Violence against Women, proposed by the Executive Power, which have sparked rejection in aspects related to immigration. For him deputy of the People’s Force, Rafael Castillothe aforementioned projects contrast with the president’s speech.

The legislator thinks Abinader’s proposal is good, but points out a contradiction between the speech and these projects that have been sent to Congress.

On his side, the Vice President of Legislative and Electoral Affairs of Fuerza del Pueblo, Javier Ubiera opined: “Great demagogy and double standards are shown when seeing that, at the same time that he submitted the Trafficking law, (Abinader) is also proposing a covenant to face the Haitian issue”.

Journalist and writer graduated from the UASD with a career in television press and various print media.
