Argentinian airlines It has had, during the last year, a great rebound in terms of tourism, which has been ratified in the first months of this year, since, during the summer, it had a record number of passengers.
The airline reported that in January and February it transported 2.4 million passengers, which exceeded by 5% the number of passengers transported in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic, when Argentinian airlines transported 2.2 million people in the same period.
The most chosen destinations were Bariloche, Mendoza, Córdoba, Salta, Iguazú, El Calafate, Ushuaia, Trelew/Madryn, Tucumán and Mar del Plata, according to reports Argentinian airlines. These destinations represented 50% of the passengers transported by the company.
In this regard, Pablo Ceriani, president of the airline, highlighted: “We started the year with excellent results, with very positive projections for the coming months and several records that are going to be broken. The challenges and effort of previous years materialize in numbers.”
The company explained that “federal routes and corridors contributed almost 20% of the total passengers transferred. In this sense, Mar del Plata, from Córdoba, Mendoza, Rosario and Tucumán, the flights to Bariloche and Iguazú from Córdoba and Rosario, the northern tourist circuits and the Patagonia Fantástica corridor were the routes that stood out”.
They also highlighted the start of regular operation with Merlo, San Luis, with two weekly frequencies and full occupancy, which also contributed to increased demand during the season.
In turn, they detailed: “The occupancy exceeded 80% in all the networks and the performance in the domestic one stood out, with occupancies greater than 90%”, which anticipates a great movement of tourists for the whole year.
Record number of passengers at the Bariloche airport
The company notified that there was a record number of passengers transported at the Bariloche airport, with more than 95 weekly flights from Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Rosario, El Calafate, Viedma, Mendoza, Salta, Tucumán and San Pablo.
In turn, destinations such as Jujuy and El Calafate also registered historical records of transferred passengers. Meanwhile, the airline expects this year to increase the number of frequencies to the main national destinations.
