International Writing.- The collision of two trains in the Greek town of Tempe, on the outskirts of Thessaly, caused the death of at least 26 people and injured another 85, according to official sources quoted this morning by the media.
In the two trains, one passenger and the other commercial, 350 passengers and 20 employees were traveling, according to the Fire Department quoted by the SKAI TV channel. Among the injured are children.
The two trains collided violently shortly before midnight at Evangelismos.
According to official information offered this morning by the Fire Department, 26 dead have been recovered and 85 injured have been rescued, although he stated that the rescue teams continue their work to free the passengers, and it is feared that the number of victims will increase.
Some 60 wounded are being treated in Larissa hospitals, 25 of which are serious.
Due to the severity of the collision, the wreckage of both trains has been thrown a long distance, according to the sources.
The passenger train, of which three carriages derailed, was allegedly on the Thessaloniki-Larissa route, and left at 7:22 p.m.
The first estimates point to human error with the two trains running on the same track, however, there is also the possibility that one train may have derailed and crashed into the other on the other track, according to the Greek TV channel. EFE
