Santo Domingo-. President Luis Abinader affirmed last Monday, before the National Assembly, that crime has dropped in the country in recent months, which has been questioned by the opposition.
The truth is that there has been a drop in criminal acts, mainly in the neighborhoods of large cities, but this has nothing to do with “the effectiveness of the National Police.”
And why has it gone down? Here’s the answer: Youths engaged in misdeeds traveled through the so-called “Tour of Mexico“, and entered USAwhere they managed to obtain a permit to stay, despite their illegal entry to that nation.

These are thousands of criminals who, “thank God,” decided to “leave the country to the Haitians,” as many claim.
Many were wanted by the authorities for committing crimes, including murders and robberies in the National District, Santo Domingo province and Santiago de los Caballeros.
Some worked in drug outlets, but encouraged by promises made by friends they have in the United States, they ventured to travel, to “start a new life in that country.”
However, despite the discourse of the authorities, the seedbed for cultivating criminals continues in the neighborhoods of the main cities, protected by politicians, police and military.
This nurturing environment is also fertilized by the lack of police surveillance in the neighborhoods and the irresponsibility of many parents, who abandon their children “to the fate of the land in the war.”
