Women and dissidents take over the Espacio Elefante auditorium of the University of Chile to hold a discussion entitled “Feminist Activisms in Music.” The objective of this meeting is to reflect on the various feminist struggles that are currently taking place in the music circuit and share experiences in the voices of outstanding artists.
Organized by the production company Rizoma, the activity -which will be moderated by the journalist Javiera Tapia- will have among its panelists Camila Moreno (artist and composer), La Peluquera (Francisca Herrera, producer of La Peluquería Records), Caro Pérez (sound engineer belonging to Stage Ninjas) and Girl Storm (Tiare Galaz, singer-songwriter and cultural manager).
The event is completely free and will last approximately two hours. First, there will be a conversation between the moderator and panelists, with a section for questions from the public. And it will end with the presentation of the singer-songwriter Chini.png. At the end, a gin of honor sponsored by WAAV Spirits will be shared. While in parallel, and throughout the development of the event, there will be a space for stands in which various feminist organizations will exhibit.
“We seek to create an instance of encounter between the different actors of the scene. We believe that it is fundamental for the advancement of our working and social conditions to organize among ourselves”, says María Fernanda Azócar, a member of the production company Rizoma.
“Feminist Activisms in Music” seeks to share experiences and foster articulation around the entire chain of the music industry (creative area, technique, dissemination, etc.), and problematize how women and gender-generic dissidents are inhabiting and building those spaces.
That is why some of the topics that will be discussed are: the female and dissident presence on stage, situations of gender violence, initiatives generated by the guests, their referents, projections, the relevance of the collective organization and how the reconstitution of the local and global feminist movement has influenced the development of their projects.
The appointment is scheduled for Thursday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. in Espacio Elefante, an auditorium located within the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile (Compañía de Jesús 1254). The event is open to the public, free and does not require prior registration.
