Man tried to run over Carabineros after evading police control in Sierra Gorda

At about noon this Tuesday, a man who evaded a police checkpoint tried to run over the group of Carabineros who were checking the cars that traveled kilometer 105 in the direction of Calama, at the height of Sierra Gorda.

It should be noted that despite the indications to stop, the driver carried out an evasion maneuver in the opposite direction of traffic and tried to run over police personnel. The latter tried to stop the action by shooting at the moving vehicle.

After that, the driver lost control of the truck and collided with a fuel transport truck, an opportunity in which he got out of the car to once again try to flee in another car through the intimidation of the owner. Once there, the Carabineros took advantage of quickly frustrating the action.

Faced with the situation, the police personnel requested support via radio, being assisted by Carabineros of OS7 from the El Loa Prefecture and personnel from the 1st Calama Police Station. It is important to mention that the van registers a current order for theft, a fact that has been denounced in the city of Coquimbo.

Likewise, the Public Ministry took account of the fact and left the driver as a defendant for reception, robbery and frustrated homicide of Carabineros on duty.
