Vaccination against covid will no longer be universal, announces López-Gatell

Regarding the universal vaccination program that has been carried out in Mexico for several years, the Undersecretary of Health rejected the fact that there has been a decrease in recent years.

He explained that although some media have reported that there is a lag in vaccination coverage, this is a lie, since he asserted that the budget for vaccines has not been reduced nor is there a lag in the campaigns.

He also specified that for this 2023, the federal government has already budgeted 3.25 billion pesos for vaccination of the universal program and 13.9 million pesos for covid vaccinationan amount that registers a reduction because it will no longer be universal.

The covid vaccination in 2023 will not have the same universal vaccination character, which it had during the emergency stage because we have already been explaining it, the immunity, the protection of the immune system of the sum of people in Mexico possibly exceeds 90% “.

Hugo Lopez-Gatell.

According to the undersecretary, this year the majority of the Mexican population already has immunity against the SARSCoV2which, he insisted, reduces the chances of developing serious disease.

The Undersecretary of Health insisted that during this administration they have not stopped buying vaccines, but rather, he added, work has been done to address the backlog that occurred a few months ago due to the pandemic.
