The foreign minister of Venezuela, Yván Gil, held this Monday in Geneva, Switzerland, a meeting with the High Commissioner for Human Rights (DDHH) of the United Nations (UN), Volker Türk.
This was reported by Gil through his account on the social network Twitter, through which he pointed out that, during the meeting, Venezuela’s commitment to strengthen the social state of law and justice was ratified.
«Meeting with Volker TürkUN High Commissioner for Human Rights, we ratify the commitment of the Bolivarian Government and President Nicolás Maduro to work to strengthen our social State of law and justice, attached to the defense of the fundamental rights of Venezuelans,” he published about the meeting.
As will be remembered, last January, at the invitation of President Nicolás Maduro, the High Commissioner for Human Rights visited Venezuela.
After meetings with authorities of the National Government, the different oppositions and civil society, the UN High Commissioner requested an end to the unilateral sanctions imposed on Venezuela.
“It is evident that the sectoral sanctions imposed in 2017 have aggravated the economic crisis and have hindered human rights. My office has once again recommended that member states suspend measures that affect human rights and we ask for it with coercive measures imposed on other countries,” Türk said at the time at a press conference at the end of his visit.

Also this Monday, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister held a constructive meeting with Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), “for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating bilateral cooperation issues, and a review of the challenges in terms assistance,” he said on the social network.
Similarly, the leader of the Venezuelan diplomatic mission in Geneva met with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Antonio Victorino. “We are committed to working seriously and non-politicized in cooperation and mutual benefit between our country and that institution,” Gil posted on his Twitter account.
Foreign Minister Yván Gil arrived earlier this Monday in Geneva to participate in the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
