Pre-Hispanic mummy found in the bag of a food delivery man in Peru

A pre-Hispanic mummy was found on February 25 by agents of the Terna Group of the Peruvian National Police in the city of Puno in a delivery man’s thermal bag of food, report local media.

The discovery was made in the framework of a police intervention to three young people who they drank alcohol in the Mantaro viewpoint area, located near the Las Torres de San Carlos urbanization. It is specified that the mummy could have been in the possession of the family of the intervened, who tried unsuccessfully to deliver it to the Museum of Puno, in exchange for money, for about 30 years.

Specialists from the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Puno (DDC), under the Ministry of Culture of the country, arrived at the place of the discovery, who carried out the pertinent procedures. As a result of his analysis, verified the authenticity of the mummy, which was identified as belonging to a male individual between 600 and 800 years old, supposedly coming from the eastern zone of Puno.

From the DDC they pointed out that now the mummy are in custody of the competent authorities, who take steps for their physical and legal protection.
