The Expert Commission, the body that will be in charge of drafting a preliminary draft that will serve as the basis for discussion and drafting of the next Constitution, will meet for the first time this Friday at about 10:00 a.m. at the headquarters of the former National Congress to refine details about its operation.
According to the slogan La Tercera, it was the same commission through its 24 members that sought a prior instance to be able to meet. This was made known to Luis Rojas, an official of the Lower House and the next general secretary of the Constitutional Council.
Likewise, they will take advantage of the meeting to resolve a series of technical issues regarding its operation, which is expected to be next Monday, March 6. Among the things to resolve are the credentials, work mechanisms and institutional emails.
On Monday, when it becomes operational, the commission must choose its board of directors, which will be made up of a presidency and a vice-presidency; presidencies of the commissions of political system, constitutional reform and form of State; jurisdictional function and autonomous bodies; principles, civil and political rights; and economic, social, cultural and environmental rights.
Due to the fact that the composition of the body is divided in equal parts, with the same number of technical and political representatives of the different political forces, the ruling party and the opposition have held a series of talks to give rise to negotiations on the distribution of the charges.
Each sector is expected to meet this week, in a formal meeting, to address the issue, define official positions and designate who will be in charge of negotiating. This, in order to reach Monday with the situation resolved.
