They denounce the Mayan Train before the Tribunal for the Rights of Nature

Cancun,QRoo.- The Tribunal for the Rights of Nature will hold a local hearing in Yucatan, from March 9 to 12, 2023, to address the case mayan trainto which various communities accused of destroying ecosystems.

The case will be presented by impacted local communities and experts from around the world, and will be heard by a panel of world-renowned judges, who will examine and decide from the perspective of the Rights of Nature, as announced by the Múuch association on Monday. ‘ Xinbal.

On March 8, the Court will begin with the opening and imputation by the land prosecutor. Afterwards, the Mayan Train project will be presented by Giovanna Gasparello and the testimonies of the affected communities por this project in Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Campeche. In addition, Múuch Xiinbal will invite representatives of other towns affected by the Train.

Subsequently, the participation of organizations and experts on different issues related to nature and the rights of the communities will be heard, such as the Regional Indigenous and Popular Council of Xpujil, the Indigenous Council of José María Morelos, the Ka’anan Ts’onot Collective -Guardians of the Cenotes, and experts in indigenous peoples, aquatic ecosystems and sustainability, biodiversity and terrestrial ecosystems, economics, geopolitics and militarization, and agrarian issues, among others.

After the testimonies, the issue of deforestation processes in the Yucatan Peninsula linked to infrastructure, tourism, agro-industrial, energy and real estate projects will be addressed.

In the afternoon, the judges will deliberate and listen to the interventions of experts such as Father Raúl Vera, Yaku Pérez, Antonio Elizalde, Maristella Svampa, Alberto Saldamando and Ailton Krenak, before the closing of the Court.

On Sunday, March 12, the judges and judges will visit the works corresponding to section 5 in the company of the organizations Cenotes Urbanos, Jóvenes por Solidaridad and Sálvame del Tren, in a journey of approximately four hours, before returning via Cancun.
