Electricity unions request further analysis to freeze rates

After last Friday the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, socialized a request that he had made to President Gustavo Petro to freeze the rates, unions spoke out about it.

(EPM: options to freeze energy rates).

At the time, the mayor did not specify where the resources would come from or what mechanism would be used to carry out this request that was made. What was known is that The request is made based on decree 0227 through which the president resumed general functions of the Energy and Gas Regulation Commission.

In this regard, the unions Acolgen, Andesco, Andeg, Asocodis and CCEnergía They issued a joint statement in which they call for both the petition and the decision to be made based on technical and economic criteria.

(Quintero asked to freeze the tariff for public services in charge of EPM).

According to the representatives of the companies, these types of measures must have an important analysis that “make it possible to identify the impacts of this type of measures on the different agents, that is, companies, users and the national or regional government, so that they in no way affect the quality and continuity of the energy service, and the financial sufficiency of the companies”.

They pointed out that the companies in the public service chain have made important contributions to reduce electricity prices, which have put more than $3 billion to help lower prices.

(‘Mayor should have asked EPM manager to freeze rates’: Andesco).

However, they pointed out that “Regional governments that have the economic resources can provide them to alleviate the payment of these fees for the most vulnerable population.”
