Havana, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) MEPs and members of the Friendship Association with Cuba today held a meeting with young people, in which the development of policies aimed at new generations was highlighted.
Aylín Álvarez, First Secretary of the National Committee of the Union of Young Communists of Cuba, pointed out that the work of youth is present in all spheres of the country with signs of support and continuity for the revolutionary process.
He added that the leadership of the Communist Party and the government provide differentiated attention to children and young people by promoting projects to meet the needs and aspirations of this population group in the midst of the serious economic limitations that the country has.
The Antillean nation has policies and desires to achieve a greater well-being of young people, for example with the increase and assurance of inclusion and access to university, employment, recreation, health programs and in this sense the country is working not today but for 63 years, said Keyla Estévez, director of the Center for Youth Studies.
Young people who have played a leading role in the development of scientific projects related to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in Cuba presented their experiences highlighting the educational capacities and solidarity values created by the Revolution since its triumph, which are essential to overcome the obstacles of the US blockade.
Leila Chaibi, French MEP, stressed that events such as the development of five vaccine candidates against the Sars-Cov 2 coronavirus, under the conditions of Cuba, is proof of what can be achieved when there is a will to put health as a major objective in a society project.
The delegation of parliamentarians began their visit to Cuba on January 31 with a program of activities that included a meeting with Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the Republic, Esteban Lazo, head of the National Assembly of People’s Power, and representatives of society. civil and community projects in the provinces of Havana, Matanzas and Mayabeque.
In statements to the press, the members of the delegation condemned the US blockade against Cuba and highlighted the resistance and creativity of the Cuban people to confront these coercive measures and overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.
