Ebrard inaugurates a new passport issuance office in Cancun

Cancun, QRoo.- Through an agreement with Fibrashop, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) opened this Thursday a new delivery office for passports in the luxurious Kukulcán square, in the hotel zone of Cancun.

The inauguration was chaired by Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, who assured that although the new facilities cost 22 million pesos to fibershopthis did not imply that the federal government disbursed a single pesos, since it is an agreement with the owners of the plaza, whose benefit is a constant flow of people, since the offices have the capacity to issue up to 600 electronic passports per day.

All the passports that will be issued in this new office will be electronic, which makes them unfalsifiable, in addition to containing a chip with all the biometric information of the bearer, which speeds up the immigration process through the new kiosks or electronic gates (e-gates) that They already exist in many parts of the world, where a passport scan reduces the process of entering another country to two minutes.

During the inauguration ceremony, an agreement was signed with the government of Quintana Roo that will allow the expansion of the staff that attends the new offices, which seeks to reduce waiting times in the processing of a passport throughout the peninsula. of Yucatán, since it is also planned that they will open new offices in Cozumel and Chetumal, added the foreign minister.

Representatives of fibershop They announced that this scheme will be replicated in at least two more states, including Jalisco and Michoacán.

In the use of the word, the governor of Quintana RooMara Lezama, thanked the support of the Government of Mexico to achieve decent areas and recalled that it was one of the first efforts of her government, in the context of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of the entity, which also contemplates renewing the Chetumal office and create one in Cozumel.

The importance of these offices, he explained, is that more Quintanarroans will be able to process their document to take advantage of opportunities to continue building commercial ties and friendship with Belize’s neighbors, with those of Central and South America, the Caribbean and the rest of the world.

The president explained that the new office will make data modifications, will grant protection services through the Mexican consulates in other countries, will support the location of lost and disappeared compatriots in other countries, but naturalization processes will no longer be processed.

The general director of Passport Offices, Carlos Candelaria López, highlighted that this office is number 15 in the entire country under the turnkey scheme, with total investment from the private initiative.
