Odalys Caldera affirms that the citizen must file a complaint to combat crime

Commissioner Odalys Caldera, as a recommendation, asked the public to take more precautions for their personal safety. She warned that there is an increase in the escalation of crimes in Venezuela, extortion being the one that is currently most committed

The commissioner, security expert and former Secretary of Security and Public Order of the Zulia state, Odalys Caldera, recommended that citizens turn to organizations such as the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc) and the Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Command the National Guard (Conas) to denounce the crimes of which they were victims, thus allowing the security forces to act and minimizing criminal acts.

In an interview granted to Circuit Hits This Thursday, February 23, Caldera warned that there is an increase in the escalation of crime in Venezuela, recalling what happened over the weekend in the state of Zulia, where armed individuals injured several people in two commercial premises for alleged extortion.

He warned about the need for citizens to have greater responsibility for their personal security by taking some measures such as having greater articulation with security officials in a certain quadrant or jurisdiction; close doors and bars; if you have an armored vehicle, avoid lowering the glass; that is, reduce the possibility of being approached by criminals.

He stressed that those affected should not give in to the claims of criminals such as paying what they demand, since it is more difficult to get out of the predicament that way.

He recognized that another problem is that in Venezuela there is a shortage of police officers, a fact that influences citizens and companies, which have been forced to invest in a security structure and train personnel to avoid adverse situations.

Odalys Caldera criticized the fact that since 2013, once Pablo Pérez’s term in the Zulia governorate ended until Manuel Rosales arrived in 2022, a lot of security work that had been done and that helped to minimize crime was lost; including the rescue of the credibility of the security forces that, at a certain moment, motivated Venezuelans to collaborate in procedures to detain criminals.

He explained that extortion is the crime that is currently committed to a greater degree in the country, followed by theft and theft of vehicles; robbery and robbery of residences and kidnapping, although he emphasized that this crime has had a reduction in recent years.

Regarding extortion, the commissioner said that now criminals do not go only with big businessmen, but with anyone who has a business like a hot dog cart, a clinic or a “tarantín”, so she believes that the authorities should sit down and take appropriate measures to prevent this scourge from growing.

For his part, the president of Fedecámaras Zulia, Enzo Angelini, said on Wednesday, February 22, that the premises affected over the weekend in Maracaibo have already reopened their doors.

“They are fully open and operating normally; thank God the merchants are brave, the workers somewhat afraid, but they went back to work (…) there is no estimate of losses. The authorities of the National Guard, the Zodi, the police, supported them 100%; at the moment, there are armed guards. The authorities are looking for the culprits. I don’t know who could be behind this,” she said in an interview with Union Radio.

He recalled that extortion is a crime that is not new in Zulia and that they have been fighting against it for years, for which he called on the authorities to do intelligence and deal a blow to crime.
