Both the Electric Company in Camagüey and official journalists confirmed on their social media that the massive blackout extended from Cienfuegos to Camagüey.

Just a day before, this Wednesday, the UNE reported another massive power blackout from Cienfuegos to Guantanamo, the third major one in the last 10 days.

“At the moment, the provinces from Cienfuegos to Guantánamo are without power due to a fault in the 220 KV lines Matanzas-Santa Clara and Matanzas-Cienfuegos. The restoration process began,” UNE said in an informative note.

Last Monday, February 13, the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Cuba reported on the failure of the electrical system in the central and eastern provinces of the country. According to that body, the ruling was caused by a fire in a sugarcane field located in a border area between the provinces of Sancti Spíritus and Ciego de Ávila.

“Disconnection occurred in the eastern part of Cuba due to failure of the 220 thousand volt lines that are between Sancti Spiritus and Ciego de Ávila. Probable cause could be a fire in a cane field, yet to be confirmed. Work is underway to restore the system, it will take between four and five hours,” the state entity said.

Just five days later, on February 18, UNE reported another massive power outage. “It is reported that there is an affectation from the province of Matanzas to Guantanamo, until now the causes are being investigated, it will be reported in a timely manner once the failure is clarified,” the company said in a brief statement. informative note.

As recently reported on national television by the technical director of the Unión Eléctrica (UNE), Lázaro Guerra, the situation was caused by human error at the 220 KV Matanzas substation. This caused a fault that left two thirds of Cuba without power, from Yumurino territory to Guantanamo.

The official assured on television that at 10:56 in the morning “an operating error, a human error” had occurred in the Matanzas substation.

In a note published on its Telegram channel, the Unión Eléctrica ruled out that there was any link between the two blackouts, since the last one was caused by an “operational error.”

“In none of the cases is there evidence to show that they were provoked. Work is being done at all times to compensate the damages and difficulties with the SEN in the shortest possible time,” the state entity said in its communication.
