Michel Torres Corona, the new man and the Book Fair

Con Filo, Michel Torres Corona, Cuba

HARRISONBURG, United States. – Watch the show with edge It allows me to be updated on the coordinates of the ideological indoctrination that the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) imposes on the entire Cuban society.

The space has tried to get out of the pedestrian molds of Cuban television by using young and intelligent presenters who, with a casual language, even give themselves the luxury of issuing supposedly revolutionary opinions within the entrenched left-wing discourse. It tries to show itself as something new, but, in reality, it is more of the same, since it continues to reproduce biased communication patterns and tries to present what is a completed project as fair and revolutionary. In that sense, it is another example of canelista continuity.

From that program, as well as from the amazed pupil either chapping Cubans who oppose the dictatorship are described as “haters”. The purpose is to create a boundary in which, according to his words, those who oppose the dictatorship are the bad guys in the movie and they, who defend it, are “the loving patriots.”

Thanks to his cynicism—amplified by television— Michel Torres Corona Perhaps he is at this moment, together with the no less abhorrent Humberto López, one of the faces most hated by the population.

Some time ago, Humberto López attacked a young woman in the street who dared to confront him. The result of this courageous attitude was that the young woman was arrested and punished while the abuser remained free, another clear example of how justice and the rule of law work in Cuba.

Now Michel has replicated that aggressive behavior so typical of Castro’s minions, nothing more and nothing less than at the Book Fair, an event where culture and good manners are presumed to be predominant. Is that going to surprise us in a country where his Minister of Culture assaulted a young man to take away his cell phone?

Michel was walking inside the Morro castle and came across a shepherd who allegedly told him in front of other people to speak on his program about the prices of books. Surprised, losing the composure that every public figure should know how to maintain and putting his two-tongued hands behind his back, Michel suddenly pounced on the pastor.

It was to be expected that the event would be analyzed in the program, much more after the presenter Ana Álvarez Guerrero’s own words. But against that logic of thought, this Friday, February 17, with edgededicated to the Book Fair with the title “The price of culture”, offered Michel’s statements without referring to what happened, an obvious inconsistency of a program that is presented to us as “a space that tries to show the news with all its nuances , the facts, the opinion matrices that circulate in the media and on the networks about the Cuban reality”.

Ana Álvarez Guerrero said verbatim: “But if something has led the Book Fair to social networks, it is also a new temporary scam. Gabriela Fernández tells us about him ´En la mira´”.

It was supposed that with this introduction Gabriela was going to analyze what happened when she gave the floor to Michel, but the presenter limited herself to expressing: “In these days our presenter Michel Torres has not been able to join us because he was, indeed, at the Book Fair , fulfilling his functions as director of the editorial New milleniumthe largest in the country, and well, in the fight”.

Immediately afterwards, Michel appeared on the screen, briefly referring to the publisher and inviting readers to visit his pavilion. Nothing was said about the incident that she starred in and the program continued to leave us with another sample of the “objectivity” of revolutionary journalism.

According to the information that appears in cubadebate about Michel Torres Corona, he graduated with a Law Degree from the University of Havana in 2017. In less than five years and being a stranger in the country’s intellectual media, he became the host of a prime-time television program and, as if that were not enough, the director of the largest publishing house in Cuba.

Obviously, his collusion with power and knowing that he is protected by it is the cause of the arrogance that Michel showed when reacting to the pastor’s words.

A tolerant person, devoid of hatred towards diversity, would have respectfully approached the pastor to invite him to tour the Fair together and would ask him to prove his claim. Surely, that tour would have led to an exchange of their points of view and, in the end, established any of them as the truth, I am sure that both would have won.

But Michel is a genuine product of the Cuban Revolution, and, whether due to ambition, opportunism or conviction, he cannot avoid reproducing codes of conduct that have been instilled in him since pre-school. I am not going to elaborate on this because I think that someone already did it very well through a video entitled “Who was an accomplice of Michel from “Con Filo” in pushing Pastor at the Book Fair”, which can be found at Youtube.

Let us not forget that in one of his essays the propagator of the idea of the new man in Cuba —copied from the Bible—, the Argentine with the happy trigger, emphasized the role of hatred in the political struggle by stating that revolutionaries had to be converted In cold machines to kill. I am referring to Che Guevara, the same person who, in a letter written in the Sierra Maestra, confessed to his father that he had killed a man and that he had felt very good doing it.

The fact that an individual without work or intellectual merit occupies a position to which he should have acceded only due to his merits is not something new in Cuba. That a public figure violates codes of morality and decency without that having consequences either.

Castroism propagates one thing and does another because it is intrinsically mendacious and hypocritical. And his most loyal disciples cannot be the exception. They are the real haters.
