The group Los Jaivas received the honorary recognition at the 60th anniversary of its inception, in 1963 in the same city of Viña del Mar.

It is the fourth time in the more than six decades of the festival’s history that the organization awards the Platinum Gulland the first to be received by a Chilean group, which puts Los Jaivas on the short list of the most important groups in Chile and all of Latin America.

He euphoric public attended the characteristic rock of one of the most iconic music groups in Chile, who mix their musical genre with Chilean folklore instruments.

The attendees chanted the songs of Los Jaivas throughout the concert, and took advantage of each silence in the performance to ask the festival organization for the Platinum Gaviota for the group, shouting “platinum” in unison.

After more than an hour of performance, and with the Gaviotas de plata y de oro in Los Jaivas’ plane, the public kept asking for more: “Platinum, platinum, platinum!”, until the presenters of the gala announced that Los Jaivas had won the festival’s top prize at the request of the attendees.

In addition to the Platinum Seagull, the mayoress of Viña del Mar, Macarena Ripamonti, handed over the key to the city to the group from Viña del Mar: “You have become one of the most important groups in this country,” said the mayoress.

The band Los Jaivas was born in 1963 in the city of Viña del Mar, and they soon began performing at festivals, to continue recording new music and touring the world for decades.

Until now, the silver seagull had only been received by the Mexican Luis Miguel, the Spanish Isabel Pantoja and, posthumously, the Mexican Lucho García, all in recognition of a long career as musicians.
