Ten communities of Concepción benefit from the Risk Management and Resilience project in Chiquitania for the construction of water tanks. The execution of the works is carried out with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The 10 cylindrical tanks have storage capacity of 16,000 liters of water. The versatility of the tanks allow to receive the liquid from cisterns or recover the water from the rains, reported Diego Chirinos, project technician.
Thanks to the water tank project, the beneficiary communities will have water reserves for family consumption in a safe and clean way. The amount of stored water covers the consumption needs of a family of five people for six months, explained the person in charge of the project.
The communities selected for their vulnerability to drought are Monte Olivo, María Auxiliadora, San Pablo Norte, El Cuchi, Santa Elena, Nokovorema, 26 de Octubre, Candelaria, Porvenir and San Miguelito Sur.
The project is funded by the Government of Sweden and has a counterpart from the beneficiary communities. It is estimated that it will be completed by the end of this month, Chirinos assured.
José Ortiz, communication chief of the Concepción Indigenous Central of Communitiesexplained that these water cisterns alleviate water scarcity that these communities suffer in times of drought.
This FAO project also develops in other vulnerable communities found in the municipalities of Roboré and San Antonio de Lomerío. The implementation of the project implemented by FAO in San Rafael implemented eight tanks and a system of gutters to improve the quality of life of the community members.
