Cigar exports drop in 2022

Several products of the agricultural sector are exported to different destinations worldwide. Data from the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana) indicate that, among the top 15 of the exports totals of the Dominican Republic during 2022, the cigars “cigars”including blunts and “cigarillos” that contain tobacco, rank second after reaching 1,008.49 million dollars, for a decrease of 3.70%.

Other products that stood out last year are: cocoa beanswhole or split, with 211 million dollars, for eighth place in the top 15, and bananas, with 195.6 million dollars, for ninth place, among others.

In a report published by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) it is explained that the exports totals for 2022, amount to 12,390.93 million dollars, presenting an increase of 6.41%, in relation to 2021.

For this period, 62.69% of the exports belong to the regime free zone34.53% to the national regime, 2.51% to temporary admission and the remaining 0.27% to re-export.
