The executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcantara, reported that this entity incinerated thousands of units of counterfeit, expired, and unregistered dairy products and their derivatives that were withdrawn from the market during operations carried out in Greater Santo Domingo and other cities.
Alcántara explained that these dairy products and their derivatives represented a real risk for consumers.
He said that it was possible to determine that some were counterfeit products that are manufactured and imported in the Dominican Republic, “while others were in very poor condition.”

“They did not meet the required quality standards,” said the official.
He pointed out that many of these confiscated and incinerated products did not contain labels detailing their content or expiration dates.
He reported that the operations began the first week of this month of February, after receiving numerous complaints from consumers in the sense that they were being marketed products without labels, without sanitary registration and expired.
He assured that based on these complaints, alerts and verification, special operations were created to dedicate themselves solely and exclusively to following up on these consumer irregularities and proceeding to withdraw from the market all products that do not comply with the regulatory precepts.
“With the operations, we were able to verify that dairy products and their derivatives were indeed being sold without the proper sanitary registration and without compliance with the established regulations, endangering the health of consumers,” said Eddy Alcántara.
He announced that these operations will continue permanently in the Greater Santo Domingo and towns of the interior until ending this illegal practice that threatens the health of the consumers.
