Record in Carnival: 3 million tourists traveled the country

Some three million tourists traveled the country during the four days of the long Carnival weekend and the number is added to a season that marked “the return of international tourism” and “the consolidation of the sector” as one of the engines of the economy and the generation of employment, highlighted today the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Matías Lammens.

“This record Carnival weekend rounds off a wonderful season with excellent numbers in all destinations in the country and full occupancy in many of them”, Lammens specified through a statement.

It was the Carnival weekend “with more people mobilized since the holiday was established in 2011,” they highlighted from the national portfolio.

In this sense, from the Ministry they detailed that there was full occupation in large destinations such as Gualeguaychú, Colón and Federación, in Entre Ríos; Paso de la Patria, in Corrientes; El Rodeo and Antofagasta de la Sierra, in Catamarca; Villa Carlos Paz, Cosquín and Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, in Córdoba; Merlo, in San Luis; the Partido de la Costa and Monte Hermoso, in the Province of Buenos Aires; The Quebrada de Humahuaca, in Jujuy; Tafí Viejo and Amaicha del Valle, in Tucumán; Calingasta, in San Juan; and in El Calafate, in Santa Cruz, among others.

Lammens also announced that with PreViaje 4 -which will be launched for the Argentine population to travel in May and June- they will ensure “an even movement during the twelve months for all providers and the transformation of what used to be temporary employment into employment for the whole year”.

For his part, the president of the Argentine Chamber of Tourism, Gustavo Hani, remarked that “a Carnival weekend is ending with high levels of occupancy throughout the country. The sustained growth of tourism is consolidating, which once again confirms its key role as an industry that generates business, work and development throughout the country”.

The occupancy data

According to data from Argentine Tourism Observatory (OAT), the provincial average occupancy in the provinces from the north of the country, it was 95% in Jujuy; 90% in Salta and La Rioja; 89% in Tucuman; 91% in Catamarca; 70% in Santiago del Estero; 65% in Chaco; 92% in Misiones and 95% in Corrientes.

In the central zone of the country, the provincial occupancy average was 95% in Entre Ríos; 94% in Santa Fe; 70% in the City of Buenos Aires (with 94 thousand tourists); 90% in the Province of Buenos Aires, in Córdoba and in San Juan; 95% in St. Louis; 87% Mendoza.

In the southern part of the country, the provincial occupancy average was 90% in Neuquén, Río Negro, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands; and 85% in Chubut.

More than 50,000 tourists arrived in the province of Jujuy to enjoy the Carnival festivities during the long weekend that will culminate tomorrow with the traditional “chaya Tuesday”, informed the provincial authorities of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

“We registered 98% hotel occupancy in the province of Jujuy and reached 100% in the Quebrada de Humahuaca and the provincial capital during the long Carnival weekend,” Jujuy’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Federico Posadas, told Télam.

The province of Jujuy has 12,500 places to receive visitors and the towns of Purmamarca, Maimará, Tilcara and Humahuaca concentrate 60% of them.

Also thousands of tourists traveled to the south of Mendoza this extra-long weekend and reached 98% occupancy in the southern city of San Rafael.

“Last night the hotels, apartments and cabins registered in the city of San Rafael, located in the province of Mendoza, were at 100% capacity. In this way, our city is one of the most chosen destinations in Argentina, recognized by the Ministry of Tourism of the Nation”, they assured on Monday morning from the municipality.

The massive presence of visitors was noticed in the city, in its parks, promenades and gastronomic venues, in addition to natural destinations, including the Atuel and Diamante circuits, with Valle Grande, the Atuel Canyon and Los Reyunos leading the way. the busiest.

“The Ministry of Tourism of the Nation positioned San Rafael, a city with some 9,500 registered beds, as one of the most chosen in the country, within the statistics related to the occupancy of hotels, aparthotels and cabins,” said the director of Municipal Tourism, Javier Muñoz.

The survey does not include campsites, which were also full in Valle Grande, Los Reyunos, El Nihuil, El Tigre, among other destinations.

“We had warned in the reservation projections that it was going to be a great long weekend and reality confirmed it. San Rafael is at 100 percent occupancy, this being the period with the greatest presence of visitors throughout the summer,” he said. Munoz.

At the same time, the towns located in the Sierras de la Ventana region, to the southwest of the province of Buenos Aires, were also “with 100% occupancy” in its more than 7,500 hotel beds, within the framework of the long weekend for Carnival, reported today from the Tornquist Tourism Department, head of the district.

“On Saturday many people entered the towns located in the region, so we estimate that we are already at 100 percent occupancy,” the commune’s Secretary of Tourism, Gustavo Sandobal, told Télam today, referring to the towns of the Municipality of Tornquist, the head city of that Buenos Aires tourist region made up of Villa Ventana, Sierra de la Ventana, Saldungaray, Tornquist and Villa Serrana la Gruta.
