This Sunday, the newspaper Reform published a text by former President Felipe Calderón titled “Rebuild the opposition to save Mexico”, in which he called for the formation of a new party that could face what he described as a “corrupt, incompetent and authoritarian 21st century populist dictatorship”.
“This is about organizing citizens to bring about a resurrection of the political opposition in order to prevent Mexico from falling into a corrupt, incompetent and authoritarian 21st century populist dictatorship. To achieve this democratic feat, I see two possible paths, which are not are exclusive: 1) the recovery of existing political parties, from the citizenry, and 2) the construction of a new opposition political party,” says the text signed by former President Felipe Calderón.
In this regard, the president criticized the fact that Calderón did not rule on the trial of the former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro García Luna, but did favor a revival of the opposition.
“They do an interview with former president Felipe Calderón, I said, ‘they are going to ask him about García Luna’ and nothing, taking care of him,” lamented the federal president.
However, he supported the former president’s proposal, considering that it will help the country to have a full democracy.
