The Guatemalan authorities announced this Sunday the seizure of 441 kilos of controlled substances, which were transported in a small plane that entered illegally north of the country and was abandoned, reported the Prosecutor’s Office.
The cocaine shipment has “an estimated value of approximately more than of 5.9 million dollars“, said the Prosecutor’s Office on his Twitter account.
As explained by the Army spokesman, Rubén Téllez, between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Guatemalan Air Force radars detected “the entry of an aircraft (a light aircraft) into the national airspace,” which “did not have a flight plan on file.”
The plane, according to Téllez, “landed” near a community in the municipality of San Andrés, in the department of Petén, some 550 km north of Guatemala City and which is on the border with Mexico and Belize.
After detecting the landing of the twin-engine plane, members of the army were put on alert who found the aircraft “empty” without crew or drugs.
After this situation, notice was given to the anti-narcotics units of the Police that after a search in a radius of 3 km from the place where the plane landed, they found and They seized several packages containing the drug.
The National Civil Police indicated on its Twitter account that “the searches continue” in the area where the plane landed in search of its crew.
