The Turkish community that lives in Caracas organized a mass this Sunday, February 19, at the San Juan Bosco church in honor of the victims of the earthquake that occurred in Turkey on February 6, which to date left a total of 41,020 dead in this country and 5,841 in Syria, according to the latest data from the Authority for Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD).
The mass was organized by the parish priest Álvaro Salas and the priest Fernando Santana, together with the Turkish community of Caracas -leaving aside religious and cultural differences- “to seek prayer and financial support for all the damage that has occurred in Turkey”. , counted SuchWhich Elizabeth Hoshanli, wife of a Turk, who lives in Venezuela.

He explained that at the moment financial aid is only being received through the Turkish Embassy. “We do not collect money, everything is through the Embassy,” she insisted.

Until now, financial aid is only being received through the Embassy’s bank account. “Unfortunately, it is not possible to collaborate with materials such as sheets or supplies of this type due to the issue of mobility because it is extremely difficult to get it there because it is a city that is very far away,” explained Elizabeth Hoshanli.
Hoshanli added that “the most important thing right now is that we are one world.” He said that the mass was very emotional, that they prayed for all the deceased and for the victims of Turkey and Syria.
Between 100 and 150 Turks live in Venezuela, and they are organizing activities in the mosques of Caracas, in the three Turkish schools in the city, and in other educational institutions. All in order to provide spiritual and economic support to their compatriots victims of the earthquake.
The Turkish ambassador in Venezuela, Aydan Karamanoglu, has thanked this country for its support for his nation after the earthquake. He expressed “sincere gratitude to the Venezuelan authorities who from the beginning have given us their solidarity, their friendship, their cooperation.”
He recalled that Venezuela was one of the first countries to provide aid in the face of the tragedy, which he maintained “has great value because the first days are the most important to rescue lives.”
