Venezuela demands seriousness from Guyana in its commitments

Venezuela rejects new Israeli attack on Palestinian territory

The government of President Nicolás Maduro rejects Guyana’s accusations about the eventual undermining of the Geneva Agreement. Said agreement, which was 57 years old four days ago, admits the existence of a Venezuela-Guyana border problem and establishes the peaceful means for its solution.

“It is surprising that the Cooperative Republic of Guyana falsely accuses Venezuela of undermining the Geneva Agreement and instead boldly asserts that it does not prevent acts of disposition, exploitation and active and arbitrary degradation of the terrestrial territory”, says a statement issued this Saturday by the Foreign Ministry.

Based on this statement, Venezuela demands Guyana “to assume its international responsibilities seriously, sensibly and diplomatically, since the practical and satisfactory solution of the territorial dispute will depend on its conduct, as mandated by the Geneva Agreement.”

In contrast to Guyana’s accusations, Venezuela responds that it is precisely that neighboring country that “has unilaterally tried to distance itself from the Geneva Agreement, with a legal interpretation born and financed by oil transnationals…it is worrying that this line of conduct has led to the deplorable and protested delivery of vast spaces of jungle, water, forest and oxygen reserves.

Through his account on the social network Twitter, the Foreign Minister Yván Gil published the text of the Venezuelan Government in rejection of Guyana’s statement on the Geneva Agreement, which disagrees with International Law.

«The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana in the framework of the commemoration of the 57th Anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement,” said the head of Foreign Affairs.
