DUARTE.- The Prosecutor’s Office requested preventive detention against a woman who was arrested in flagrante delicto, after stealing a newborn child from the Saint Vincent de Paul Hospitalfrom San Francisco de Macoris.
The Prosecutor’s Office will request the measure of coercion against Orquídea Polanco, who was arrested this Friday morning at the bridge in the 24 de Abril sector, after removing the 14-hour-old infant from the hospital.
To commit the act, the defendant entered the hospital wearing nurse’s clothing (light blue pants and blouse) and went to the maternity ward where the newborn was with his mother.

As a method to approach the infant, the defendant told the child’s mother that she would go to feed the baby, with the sole purpose of removing it from the maternity area.
When moving with the child, Polanco hid him inside the blouse she was wearing, but was discovered and detained when the alarm was raised for the child’s abduction. The newborn was returned to the health center with his mother.
