“The President of the United Mexican States refuses to comply with the obligation that binds his State to transfer the PPT (pro tempore presidency) to Peru because he has decided to support the coup d’état of then President Pedro Castillo. (…) and subsequently questions the constitutional process that led to the inauguration of the President of the Republic, Mrs. Dina Boluarte”, stated the Foreign Ministry in a release.
“President Andrés Manuel López Obrador departs from the principles contained in the Framework Agreement referring to democracy and the rule of law and has politicized the Pacific Alliance, with the sole purpose of weakening it. The transfer of the PPT from the Pacific Alliance to Peru is not a concession, it is an obligation contained in a treaty that binds the four countries that make up the Alliance”, they add.
The portfolio led by Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi also warns that, despite the “de facto presidency” of López Obrador, “the work of the mechanism is paralyzed, as a result of the politicization that it is being subjected to for the first time in its history.” .
Government reiterates rejection of AMLO’s “interference”

“The Government of Peru reiterates its rejection of the acts of interference by the President of Mexico in its internal political process, and its full commitment to democracy and human rights. It is up to Peruvians to find a course of solution to our problems without external interference or interference, and we have been doing so within the framework of our Political Constitution,” the text reads.
What did AMLO say about the Boluarte government?
Last Friday, the Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador rated the Government of Boluarte as a “spurious” and alleged that handing over the pro tempore presidency of the Pacific Alliance would be “legitimizing a coup d’état”.
“I am going to instruct the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to notify the members of the Rio Group what we are doing, because I do not want to hand over (the presidency) to a government that I consider spurious. Let the members of the group decide. (…) If they say that we hand over the presidency, we do it, but I am going to make the consultation, I do not want to legitimize a coup d’état, it is contrary to freedoms, human rights and it is anti-democratic”, expressed López Obrador in his morning conference.
