Governor Díaz rules out that there are houses burned in Coronel after the reactivation of sources, but warns that “this does not mean that there cannot be in the future”

Within the framework of the current situation of forest fires that plague the south-central area of ​​the country, the Disaster Risk Management Committee (Cogrid) held a new meeting to assess the emergency and address the reactivation of two outbreaks in Coronel and Tomé, Biobío region.

In this sense, the governor of the aforementioned region, Rodrigo Díaz, who participated in the instance, ruled out the existence of burned houses in the Coronel commune. However, he warned that this does not mean that there cannot be in the next few hours.

“There were no houses burned in the commune, but that does not mean that there cannot be in the future. We have a live fire, probably in the afternoon, the Patagual area will be the most complex,” repaired the authority of the Biobío.

It should be noted that the meeting took place in the midst of the reactivation of forest accidents in the Santa Ana sector, Coronel commune; and in El Cortijo, in the commune of Tomé. At the moment, three damaged houses have been reported in El Guayo and another four in Lebu.

Minister Tohá delivered balance of the situation

The Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, delivered a new balance on the situation of forest fires in the country, informing that they were reactivated with force during the early hours of this Saturday in the Biobío and La Araucanía regions.

Specifically, the head of the Interior explained that there are currently 256 forest fires; 151 controlled and 67 in combat. In addition, she clarified that “it is not that we have more fires in combat than previous days”, but rather, “of those, some have the possibility of advancing towards highly populated areas, that is why the focus will be in those places.”

In this sense, the Secretary of State commented that the Government has focused its attention on two main focuses: El Cortijo and Santa Ana.

“In the case of El Cortijo, both on the side of the sector and on the side of Parra, the fire was activated very strongly yesterday, we had houses affected, we have registered three, it is very likely that these numbers will change during this day and that concentrated the deployment of personnel to reach the most populated areas,” Tohá closed.
