The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation and SENASA developed a joint strategy that allowed the opening of new markets, among which the one of pork meat to Singapore; bovine genetics to uzbekistanbovine meat to Serbian; white corn, beef, paddy rice, fresh onion, a Mexico; and the reopenings of pistachio to Brazil and beef to Algeria.

Within the framework of the strengthening of commercial exchange, important agreements have been reached for the country, such as the suspension of compensatory measures of USA to Argentine concentrated grape juice started in the last days, which represents a fundamental step to give predictability and stability to a strategic business of one of the main regional economies of the country. It should be noted that the US is the main destination for our exports of concentrated grape juice, which exceed USD 50 million annually.

In this sense, the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation, Juan Jose Bahillostressed that “the work was deepened to expand the destinations of Argentine exports, based on the opportunities we have internationally and the potential of our agro-industry, seeking to add value and promote the development of regional economies”, when explaining that the different measures implemented to promote the sale of Argentine work to the world implied the opening of almost a dozen markets in recent months.

For his part, the Secretary of Development Planning and Federal Competitiveness, Jorge Nemeremarked that “these new open markets will allow access for more Argentine products to markets around the world, will increase exports, will mean more foreign currency income and will generate more employment and investment. We know that the world market is highly competitive and opening it represents the first step for a strategy focused on the projection of Argentine production to the world.”, he added.

These actions developed jointly with the Argentine Chancellery, allowed the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) re-establish the authorization of 31 Argentine fishing establishments that had been suspended due to cases related to COVID-19, and that as of February 14, 2023 they will be able to restart operations to the Asian country.

It should be remembered that in 2022, Argentina exported fishery products to China for a total value of USD 223.5 million, 23% more than the previous year, with China being the second destination behind the European Union.

Likewise, China is the second world importer of fishing products, with more than USD 13,000 million annually, which makes clear the potential we have.

In addition, significant progress was made in the negotiations to start exporting sweet citrus (oranges, mandarins and grapefruit) to India, after the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare of that country indicated that an inspection visit is not necessary, as requested by SENASA. In this way, Argentina is authorized to carry out test shipments at the beginning of the season with 10 shipments per type of fruit, in accordance with the sanitary requirements already agreed between both countries. In 2021 India imported almost USD 100 million worth of sweet citrus, mainly oranges.
