Border Patrol detains 18 Cuban rafters in Key West

MIAMI, United States. – Agents of the United States Border Patrol detained this Friday 18 Cuban irregular migrants who disembarked in Key West, after crossing the Straits of Florida in a rustic raft, reported on Twitter Officer Walter N. Slosar.

In mid-January, the United States Government warned that migrants who arrive illegally in its territory, including by sea, would be repatriated and would not be able to apply to the immigration program. parole humanitarian launched on January 5 by President Joe Biden.

“New process for Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans: if a request for parole humanitarian law or a person is caught illegally crossing into the US, they will be returned directly to their country of origin and will no longer be allowed to apply for this process,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) highlighted through Twitter.

For his part, Commander of the 7th District and Director of the Homeland Security Task Force, Brendan McPherson, said: “Our HSTF-SE teams will rescue and repatriate anyone who tries to enter the United States illegally by sea. Incursions into the southeast maritime border will result in deportation and ineligibility for immigration options.”

Since Biden announced the restrictions on the entry of migrants across the border and the launch for them of the policy of parole humanitarian, hundreds of Cubans in the United States have submitted their request for sponsorship for relatives and relatives in Cuba.

The applications of the so-called sponsors are processed through the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) site, which, once the petition is approved, will send the instructions to the beneficiary. If accepted, it must appear at a U.S. port of entry, where the application for the parole.
