Agreement extended to transfer $50 million to producers due to drought

The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) resolved, together with the Congress of Mayors, to extend an agreement signed in 2022 to transfer resources from the Emergency Agricultural Fund to the municipalities, which will be used to alleviate the situation experienced by rural producers before the drought that affects Uruguay. The portfolio will allocate 50 million pesos and the departmental governments the same figure.

The measure was resolved this Thursday the 16th in the plenary session of the Congress of Mayors, with the assistance of Minister Fernando Mattos; the undersecretary, Juan Ignacio Buffa; the general director of Rural Development, Carlos Rydström, and the director of Decentralization, Luis Carrese.

The ministry will allocate some 50 million pesos, which will be added to another 50 million contributed by the municipalities, explained the minister.

“We would complete 100 million pesos in aid to producers in the 19 departments, generating support for family producers or those with less than 500 hectares, (index) Coneat 100, who are obviously the most affected,” he said.
