Cuban sports facilities could implement new economic management models depending on the results of a pilot test that will begin in the Latin American Stadiumin Havana, as reported Thursday by authorities in the sector on the island.
Omar Venegas Echemendía, Vice President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder)informed the specialized press that the emblematic park located in the neighborhood of Cerro will become a unit with a special budget for one year, to evaluate its feasibility, and that the experience could be applied to other facilities in the country, according to a note published by the sports portal Hit.
This means that 70% of the budget for the operation will be contributed by the state body and the remaining 30% would have to be managed by the administration of the Latin American, says a publication from the official Cubadebate website.
According to the manager, the experiment will start operating from March. “The objective is to recover strategic spaces that had been lost… We plan to hire services, open a store with sports equipment and also be willing to make links with tourism,” he added.
Also known as the Coloso del Cerro is one of the stadiums that is getting ready to host the 62 National Baseball Series. SAccording to Venegas Hechemendía, work is currently underway so that night games can be held there.
The newspaper specifies that the purpose of Inder is to complete the lighting of four other main stadiums: José Antonio Huelga, in Sancti Spíritus; José Ramón Cepero, from Ciego de Ávila; Julio Antonio Mella, from Las Tunas; and Guillermón Moncada, from Santiago de Cuba.
The manager explained that work is also being done at Victoria de Girón, in Matanzas, with the use of renewable energy, which could constitute an “experiment and reference in the country.” In addition, he affirmed that with that objective the Cuban Baseball Federation It delivered 160 LED lamps to that territory, purchased from China.
It also transpired that the start of the next National Series will be on March 22 at the Mártires de Barbados stadium, in Bayamo, where the current monarchs Alazanes de Granma will face off against the Cocodrilos de Matanzas.
According to the approved structure, the first eight places from last season will play eight subseries as manand club and seven as a visitor, with meetings for four consecutive days in the same venue and rest on the fifth day. In the semifinal and final of the tournament, the teams would have a transfer day and a day off
According to Cubadebate, the first phase of the championship will close on June 3, due to the celebration of the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador. At the beginning of July the campaign will resume, which will last until August, the month in which the traditional All-Star Game will be organized.
