This Thursday, February 16, the Ambassador of the United States of America in Panama, Mari Carmen Aponte met with the members of the Chamber of Commerce Agriculture and Industries of Colón (CamColon), where very relevant issues for the province of Colón, the country and the region.
In this meeting, fraternity links were established and methods of joint collaboration were studied in order to continue empowering trade and technical, social and cultural exchange between both countries.
Likewise, the occasion was used to promote the great benefits offered by the Province of Colón, highlighting its privileged geographical location, tourist potential, and the benefits of the Colon Free Zone, ports, and logistics hub.
CamColon President Michael Chen emphasized that “Colón is a GREAT province and can offer much more than a Free Zone and ports. We have everything to get ahead: coasts, beaches, history, culture, gastronomy, art and most importantly: our people. We cannot rest and everything possible must be done so that our province flourishes, always having inclusion, sustainability, resilience, innovation and ethics as our north”.
Ambassador Aponte stressed that “she feels honored and very excited to visit the Province of Colón and hopes that the great relationship between both countries will be further improved. The United States is Panama’s main economic ally and our country’s largest investments are in Colón, such as AES and MIT”.
At the same time, the need to train in the English language was reported, which is necessary to boost tourism and the economy of the province of Colón. With the start of the Cruise season in October 2022, there is an opportunity to reactivate the economy. This together with a traditional tourist development, shopping and the Special System of Colón Free Port will be the spearhead that will help the province of Colón to generate jobs that are sustainable and that last over time.
The opportunity was given to deliver the Integral Development Plan of the Province of Colón. The meeting was attended by political and economic advisers from the Embassy of the United States, Mr. Michael Chen, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture and Industries of Colón and members of the different sectors that make up the Chamber.
