Human rights defender Danny Ramírez-Ayérdiz raised a plea to Nicaraguans who have been stripped of their nationality by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. In an open letter, the young man encouraged them to continue strong and remain firm in the “work to see Nicaragua with democracy restored and with fully valid human rights.”

«I address all those who have imposed this infamy on us. Let’s continue strong, nationality is our right from birth to eternity. Let’s unite!, is my plea. The furious goading of the government against all of us is due to our activities, let’s unite to see Nicaragua free, “says Ramírez-Ayérdiz in his writing posted on his Twitter account.

The young man is part of the 94 Nicaraguans stripped of their nationality yesterday, February 15, by order of the dictatorial couple. In this new onslaught, the regime deprived journalists, human rights defenders, opponents, activists, feminists and Catholic priests of that right.

According to a resolution of the Managua Court of Appeals (TAM), the 94 Nicaraguans were declared “traitors of the homeland” and “fugitives from justice.” In addition, the confiscation of all his assets in the country was ordered.

«We are not traitors, the traitors are they. We have not betrayed our ideals, we are on the right side of history and justice, and justice will not even absolve them alive. Today more than ever it is necessary that our steps be firm towards democracy”, the human rights defender responded to the dictatorship.

«I remain unwavering as a human rights defender with the victims and their families in the search for justice, memory and reparation that, in Nicaragua, that ruthless regime has denied them. My dignity remains intact and my morale stronger than ever, with renewed strength and height of vision to continue contributing a grain of sand to restore human rights and democracy in Nicaragua,” he added.

Among those newly affected by the repressive laws of the dictatorship are Dr. Vilma Núñez, president of the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh); Arturo McFields, the former Nicaraguan ambassador to the OAS; Yader Morazán, former official of the Judiciary; Rafael Solís, former magistrate and best man at Ortega y Murillo’s wedding.

The award-winning writers Sergio Ramírez and Gioconda Belli, currently in exile in Spain, were also expatriates. They also took away the nationality of the journalist Camilo de Castro Belli, son of the poet Belli. In addition, the auxiliary bishop of Managua, Monsignor Silvio Báez and a dozen journalists.
